Our services help UCN students, alumni, and other clients access the guidance and support they need to explore career options, build targeted work search tools, and successfully search for work.  Our services are inclusive, accessible and customizable to all clients, including specific services to support UCN faculty and staff. 1 : 1  CAREER ADVISING

 

Meet with a career educator to get support and advice on career exploration, work search, and work search tools.

1 : 1  CAREER COACHING

 

Have a series of discussions with a career educator to help you clarify your goals, identify challenges and obstacles, and develop personalized strategies in addressing them. 

RESUME & COVER LETTER SUPPORT

 

Get support with your resume, cover letter, CV or LinkedIn profile development or a quick critique to create tailored, polished and professional employment tools.

INTERVIEW PREPARATION

 

Polish your interview skills and increase your confidence in this session of practice and feedback. Available virtually, for your convenience.

In this one-on-one session you can:

  •    Integrate your learning from the Job Search and Networking seminars
  •    Identify areas of strength and weakness
  •    Develop strategies for improving your interview performance

JOB SEARCH ASSISTANCE

 

Do you need support with your job search—either your career job after graduation or a part-time or summer job while you’re at UCN? Are you unsure of how to develop your strategy?

 

Discuss job search resources and strategies, get ideas about how to expand your network, find out how to enhance your LinkedIn profile, or get tips for an upcoming interview.

 

Can’t make it to campus? This session can also be conducted via email, Zoom or telephone! Book a career chat appointment to discuss one of the following:

CAREER DEVELOPMENT FOR YOUR CLASSROOM

 

Are you wanting to support the career development of your students but aren’t sure how? Here is how we can help you in the classroom.

 

ORIENTATION PRESENTATIONS

Request a 5-10 minute presentation in your class. An overview of the Centre for Career & Work-Integrated Learning services, programming and events will be provided to students.

 

 

REQUEST FOR WORKSHOP FACILITATION

 

The Centre for Career & Work-Integrated Learning offers in-class delivery of career development education seminars, which are part of the Professional Development Series. In-class delivery is available on a request basis. We work with your schedule and customize in-class offerings to align with your program's career objectives.

 

The Professional Development Series is focused on pre-employment training curricula designed to help students develop the skills and tools needed to perform job searches, secure work placements and employment, and perform professionally in the workplace.

To maintain the energy and motivation of your students, we can deliver a career seminar so you do not have to cancel your class if you need to be away from class due to a professional or personal conflict. MOCK INTERVIEW SUPPORT

 

Career Centre staff are available to support mock interviews as part of course-based learning activities. We may be available to assist you with the planning and delivery of mock interviews. Contact us for more information.

 

PROGRAM SPECIFIC CAREER EVENT SUPPORT

 

Would you like support in planning a career event within your program or course?  Want help getting connected to guest lecturers from a specific labour market sector? Or, would you like to schedule an in-class employer information session?  Our team of staff is available to assist you through this process.

 

 

WORK PLACEMENT SUPPORT

 

The Centre for Career & Work-Integrated Learning is connected to a network of professionals, industry representatives and employer partners who are seeking opportunities to provide students with work experience options. We can assist you finding suitable work placement options.

 

 

Are you ready to bring real world projects to your classroom? UCN has partnered with Riipen, the largest online marketplace in North America that integrates work and education. All UCN Faculty and staff have access to the programs and services we offer through the UCN Centre for Career & Work-Integrated Learning. Our team is professionally trained and nationally certified through the Canadian Council for Career Development. We utilize industry respected best practices aligned with professional standards to ensure all of our programs and services are grounded in professional excellence.

 

Our team is available either in-person or virtually for 1-1 confidential coaching and advising appointments for:

· Acquiring professional attire through the UCN Career Closet (currently available at The Pas Campus only– awaiting space in Thompson). The UCN Career Closet provides gently used professional attire for all job seekers who have a job interview, a career function to attend, work placement or new job.
